The former Burger King on Centreville Road will once again serve burgers, but this time without the meat.

Plant City X, a breakout chain from Plant City in Providence, will soon be moving in and serving a plant-based fast food menu.

This is the second Plant City X location, the first opened in Middletown earlier this year.

In an interview Thursday, Kim Anderson, creator and co-founder of the Plant City franchise, said demo and construction would start “right away. My team already knows I want it done fast.”

The project will be a big undertaking, and Anderson said all indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as kitchen equipment will be gutted and replaced. She has plans to redo the exterior of the building as well, promising “beautiful designs.”

The announcement was made Thursday via social media, and Anderson says the response has been overwhelming. “It’s been incredible. From posts all over social media to personal notes, people are so excited that we’re coming to West Bay and Warwick. It feels really nice to be where you’re wanted. We’re really happy to get the response we’ve had.”

Since opening the first Plant City X location in Middletown, Anderson said, “lots of customers repeatedly asked us to come to West Bay. It’s been a constant drumbeat of requests.”

Anderson is proud to create a restaurant that is 100 percent animal product and palm oil free, as well as 100 percent wind powered, compostable, and certified Kosher.

Anderson estimates that the restaurant will bring in 35 to 40 jobs. The restaurant is in need of experienced line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers, and counter help, as well as an experienced store manager with fast food restaurant and chef experience. For more details about the jobs and to apply, stop by Plant City in Providence for an application.

“We look forward to being part of the Warwick and East Greenwich community,” said Anderson. “Just like Middletown, we want to get involved with things that are happening in the city.”

No opening date has been announce yet, but for updates, visit the Plant City X Facebook page.
