Providence’s Plant City, named Best New Restaurant in Rhode Island by Providence Journal and Rhode Island Monthly, is now expanding to the Newport area with Plant City X

Soon, Middletown, Rhode Island will have a new resident: Plant City X. In response to growing demand for plant-based cuisine, the plant-based drive thru will open as a miniature version of Providence’s Plant City, the world’s first plant-based food hall.

Serving plant-based versions of fast food classics like burgers and fries along with fresh fare like smoothies and salads, Plant City X will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The chef-driven menu will feature surprising modern takes on bacon, fried chicken, nacho cheese, and wings, and dishes designed to satisfy hungry diners with comforting flavors.

Plant-based food continues to be on the rise as people adjust their diets in favor of meat- and dairy-free dishes. Plant City X is responding to increased demand for high-quality plant-based food, with two thirds of people reporting eating less meat in recent years. The company’s mission is to enable people to live a plant-based lifestyle.

The soon-to-be-renovated building is located 1.3 miles from the Newport line and less than 3 miles from Newport harbor. It will house casual dining areas and a drive thru takeout window designed with commuters and social distancing in mind. The new location was chosen for its ability to bring plant-based food to people in a convenient, fast way that fits into their daily lives.

Plant City X will be the sister restaurant of Plant City, which opened in summer of 2019 in Providence, Rhode Island. Named Best New Restaurant in Rhode Island by the readers of the state’s two most prominent media outlets, the Providence Journal newspaper and Rhode Island Monthly magazine, Plant City is home to four restaurants, a marketplace, coffee bar, bakery, community event space, and private event venue. Plant City will take favorite dishes from Plant City and build upon them for a new audience.

The focus on drive thru and takeout will make it easy for customers to enjoy award-winning food while remaining socially distanced. As with Plant City, customers will be able to order via app and online for pickup or delivery.

The grand opening will be announced by Plant City X in the coming weeks.
